In 2019, my life took an unexpected and heartbreaking turn. I miscarried twin boys, an experience that shook me to my core and left me grappling with an overwhelming sense of loss. In those dark days, I searched desperately for the support I needed, only to find that it was sorely lacking. The isolation I felt during that time was profound, and it became clear to me that no one should have to endure such pain without someone to lean on.
This realization planted a seed in my heart—a desire to become the very support I longed for during my miscarriage. Initially, I believed that nursing might be the path to fulfill this calling, so I applied to nursing school, hoping it would lead me to where I needed to be. But as I delved deeper into the world of healthcare, I discovered something unexpected: the path I sought was not in nursing but in doula work.
This revelation led me to Doula Training Canada, where I embarked on a triple-stream program that would forever change my life. Becoming a doula wasn't easy, though. The journey was fraught with challenges, some of which I could never have anticipated. One of the most difficult experiences was encountering women who scammed doulas by falsifying pregnancies to obtain support they didn’t need. This not only tested my resolve but also underscored the importance of authenticity and trust in the work we do as doulas.
But these trials only strengthened my commitment. I knew that I was on the right path, and I wasn’t going to let anything deter me from becoming the support person I wished I had during my darkest moments. Now, as I study for my certification exams, I reflect on the incredible people I've met and the amazing experiences I've had. Each step of this journey has been a testament to the power of resilience and the deep human need for connection.
Becoming a doula is more than just a career for me; it’s a mission born out of personal loss and a profound desire to make a difference. I’m here to provide the compassionate, unwavering support that every person deserves during their most vulnerable times. And while the road hasn’t always been smooth, it has led me to exactly where I need to be—ready to support, nurture, and empower others as they navigate their own unique journeys.
